French project for all tiers of govt – Co-ordinator

The Nigerian French language project under the Ministry of Education, a bilateral initiative of the Nigerian and French governments is for the three tiers of government to fund, contrary to the belief by some persons that funding is for partners alone, the co-ordinator of the project, Mrs. Constance Uzor has said.

Speaking at a seminar for French teachers in Kano, Mrs Uzor said the project is aimed at aiding the development and review of French language examinations at the secondary level, development of database for the language in the education sector and also initiate the teaching of French as a second language at Masters degree level .

“The National Policy on Education states that for a smooth interaction with our neighbours, it is desirable for every Nigerian to speak French,” she said.
